Following its successful introduction in 2018, the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards return this year to celebrate outstanding Australian architectural work that incorporates LYSAGHT® steel building products.

“If the success of last year’s competition is anything to go by, we can expect to again be inundated by nominations of the highest quality this year. We look forward to receiving more examples of the architecture and design talent that exists in this country today,” said Matt Lloyde, Lysaght’s National Sales, Marketing and Innovation Manager.

Details about this years awards can be found at www.lysaghtinspirations.com

Nominations will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges, representing the architectural fraternity, industry, and the media; and once again, prizes will be given in five separate categories.

This year, to recognise the newest members of the design and architectural profession, the awards include a category exclusively for architectural students. This category is open to all architectural or design students currently enrolled at Australian universities and colleges, as well as recent graduates in these disciplines. Entries in the Student Category will be judged on a conceptual and design basis rather than the completed project status required in the other award categories.

“The introduction of this new category is particularly exciting. We believe that it will provide students with a real opportunity to not only express their creativity, but also consider and familiarise themselves with the design possibilities and applications of steel products,” said Matt.

The five categories making up the awards are:

  1. Commercial and Industrial (office, retail, warehouse, education, institutions, factories, processing facilities and agricultural)
  2. Residential (houses, villas, apartments, aged care and similar)
  3. Buildings featuring ZENITH™ cladding (structures utilising products from the LYSAGHT ZENITH™ range of architectural cladding)
  4. Heritage and Restoration (refurbishment of existing building and structures)
  5. Student Design (open to all architectural or design students currently enrolled at Australian universities, as well as recent graduates)

The winner of the Student Category will receive a cash prize of $5,000 cash, while the winners of all other categories will receive $2,000 and their winning projects will feature in the next edition of Lysaght’s ‘Design Inspiration’ publication. Where applicable, this will include acknowledgment of the winner and their company.

All category winners (apart from the Student Category) will then be in the running for the major award of the program, ‘Lysaght Inspirations Design Award’. This ultimate winner will receive a trip for two to the World Architectural Festival in Amsterdam in December this year, as well as $5,000 spending money. In addition, the winning project will feature on the cover of the next edition of Lysaght’s ‘Design Inspiration’ publication, including acknowledgment of the winner and their company, where applicable.

The Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards are open to architects, building designers and building owners. Nominations must clearly display a significant proportion of LYSAGHT® steel building products and refer to projects completed between January 1, 2014, and June 30, 2019.

Entry period for the Awards opens on May 20, 2019 and close on July 28, 2019. Entries can only be submitted on the dedicated Awards website – www.lysaghtinspirations.com

Lysaght encourages all those who are eligible to nominate and wishes all those who take part the best of luck.
