We can confidently say that our fences may be used all over Australia, except for the tropical cyclone regions (defined in AS1170.2 - 1989 SAA Loading Code, Part 2: Wind Loads). Installation methods will vary slightly, depending on your wind region, terrain category and soil type.

For cyclonic regions see:

The LYSAGHT® mobile rollformer arrives on site staffed to suit the particular requirements of the job as they were identified by an initial site visit.

Subject to site restrictions our mobile mill has a rated capacity of 30 metres per minute.

You will need 2 SMARTASCREEN® fence posts, 1 SMARTASCREEN® bottom rail, 1 SMARTASCREEN® top rail, 3 fencing infill sheets, 14 self-drilling screws and your choice of post caps.

No! Because a steel frame creates a positive earth, a lightning strike will have no effect. The energy is allowed to go straight to the ground, and is not dissipated destructively as in conventional framing.

No. The traditional methods of lapping, bolting, bridging, accessories, etc, have not been changed. There are, however, a number of added benefits to the builders, fabricators and riggers.

Yes, the LYSAGHT SMARTASCREEN® fencing system has been designed to fit into the existing post and rail system.

It is an industry recommendation to hang services from the web or in the bottom flanges close to the web, not from the lips of traditional purlins. This recommendation has not changed with LYSAGHT SUPAPURLINS® and hanging from the lips is not recommended. Our manual details guidelines to the engineer for carrying out inspections on this type of loading.

With much less handling involved from rollformer to roof when it happens onsite we're confident you'll be impressed with the product quality.

Due to the capability of rolling directly to roof, taking into consideration the environment and layout of the site, we are confident we can roll any length you require.

As most job sites stop work due to bad weather, we would abide by this rule.

By involving us early in the design process we can schedule our mobile rollformer to meet your requirements.

While the mobile machine is focused on the production of lengths that are beyond the capability of our numerous stationery rollformers, shorter lengths for sites are also available in conjunction with longer lengths.

Yes, this varies with each job's specifics, however we're confident that when you weigh against potential cost savings in other areas you'll appreciate the advantages.

We have a spreader bar that extends up to 72 metres. Lengths above this will require rolling to roof.

We carry out site inspections for most jobs, but there must be firm level ground and a minimum length of whatever sheet size you require plus 25 metres for the unit and its prime mover. You also need to allow for an adjacent storage area 7 metres wide by the length of your required sheets when the cladding is rollformed to the ground.

Cladding is a collective term for any sheeting that covers a building, whether it be on the roof of the building, or on the walls. Roof cladding is made from thicker steel and is rolled to a profile capable of supporting roof traffic*. In most cases, these roof claddings can also be used for walling as well. Wall cladding is made from thinner steel, rolled to a less rigid profile. They are generally not capable of supporting roof traffic, prohibiting their use as roofing.

*Some roofing is designed to be non-trafficable. Please consult the span and capacity tables of the cladding for further details.

In most cases none! We will provide all labour required to produce the KLIP-LOK 700 HI-STRENGTH® sheets. A team of installers are required to apply the roof sheeting. Talk to your Lysaght representative for project specific cases.

Lysaght recommends a support to be used on most applications. You may not necessarily need to use gutter supports if it was for a small box gutter when the base is less than 200mm wide. However, by using the support on all applications you do eliminate any ponding of water.

No. A patent protects the new purlin profile. The patent is under dual ownership Sydney University and Lysaght. Thus any attempt to infringe the patent will result in legal action being taken.

In some states of Australia, steel roofing falls under the category of plumbing, which can only be performed by a licensed contractor. Please refer to your local authority for advice relevant to your state.

No, the mobile rollformer is self powered and designed to work in most conditions without the need to plug in to secondary power.

Some trades may choose to initially charge a little more for a steel framed home reflecting a reluctance to working with steel for the first time. However, with familiarity and competition, most trades quickly change their attitudes to NOT charge a premium for fixing steel. You will be able to enjoy the strength, reliability and convenience of steel frames without paying more.

It is good practice to only walk in the pans, however at supports only it is safe to stand on the ribs.

Most fences feature galvanised steel posts and COLORBOND® steel infill sheets. Immersing the galvanised steel posts in concrete does not cause any corrosion problems but you should not allow the concrete to contact the rails or infill sheets of the fence. Check with your fencing supplier.

We recommend spacing the clips approximately 1000mm apart, along the gutter.

Standing and looking toward the house, with the front of the gutter facing you, the left hand side is the left hand stop end and the right hand side is the right hand stop end.

Yes, these are called internal or external 'mitres'.

There are clips for both metal and timber fixing. The clips for metal fixing are called metal fix clips, and have the tail of the clip bent in a 'U' shape. These are made to slide over the back edge of standard metal fascia. A clip to suit a timber tilt board, has a straight tail, allowing it to be nailed onto the rafter/tilt.

Yes! When installed correctly, steel frames are safe because the frames are earthed. When exposed to a live wire, the earthing will create a short and trip the residual current safety switch reducing the chance of electrocution. All new housing is required to be fitted with residual current safety switches. At times, steel framing can actually be safer than the alternatives because of these safety features.

There will always be projects where this will be necessary. In these situations we can provide the traditional purlin profiles (subject to enquiry), however there may be an extended lead-time or some minimum order requirements.

Yes! These materials should be isolated because in the presence of water these materials will develop galvanic cells which will result in rapid destruction of the protective metal coating of the steel frame. Copper pipes are easily isolated from the frame by using nylon grommets or face fixed to the studs using plastic clips. Both of these systems also resist water hammer noise.

No. LYSAGHT SHEERLINE® Gutters are usually used on straight runs. If corners are required the plumber will need to fabricate them.

No. LYSAGHT® fencing has not been designed or tested for use in this application. It is highly likely the soil will cause corrosion of the COLORBOND® steel.

The size of the cantilever is 10% of the adjacent internal span or 500mm whichever is the lesser. Please note that the LYSAGHT TOPSPAN® 120 must be one continuous length from internal span to the end of the cantilever.

The main reason for this is the specially engineered shape of the LYSAGHT TOPSPAN® section.

You will need 2 LYSAGHT® fence posts, 3 LYSAGHT MINISCREEN® universal rails, 1 LYSAGHT MINISCREEN® centre rail, 3 LYSAGHT MINISCREEN® infill sheets, 1 lattice, 27 self drilling hex. head screws #10-16x16, 7 Ripple Tek® or RippleZip®** screws and your choice of fence caps, 2 post infill strips (optional)

**NOTE: Ripple Teks® is a registered trademark of ITW Buildex

No.
The flange dimensions and flange shape do not allow these profiles to lap with each other. Thus in projects where there is to be an extension from an existing building there will need to be some attention to detailing to allow the connection to be made. This will be as simple as some notching of lips of the new purlins to be installed.

Yes, it can. This means the support spacings can be increased. Please contact us for more information.
