THE PROJECT

The 2016 Deakin Charity House project was a joint project in which the Master Builders Association of the ACT (MBA) and the Land Development Agency (LDA) partnered with building company Renaissance Homes to deliver two home and land packages for auction to raise money for Canberra charities.

MBA members, led by Renaissance Homes, donated (or provided at low cost) construction materials and labour to build the two stunning new homes on adjoining lots in the Canberra suburb of Deakin.

Lysaght was pleased to donate the steel products required for roofing both homes and was proud to partner with the many generous businesses that joined together to not only build homes, but help build a brighter future for those in need.

The auction, held on Saturday, 5 November 2016, raised one of the largest donations to community organisations in Canberra history, resulting in over $2.2m being donated to three local charities

THE SOLUTION

The Lysaght Canberra branch provided any support required from a design and product specification perspective and donated all COLORBOND® steel cladding, flashing, guttering and battening products needed to complete the roofing on both charity homes.

Lysaght also sought support from their major suppliers Buildex, Component Industries and Rock Logistics, who all gladly assisted with complementary products and services to support the timely and successful completion of the project.

THE PROCESS

Having been involved in the similar Franklin Charity House project in 2013, Lysaght’s Canberra branch was approached by the MBA to assist once again on this dual-home project and was pleased to collaborate on the project which would benefit numerous community-based charities. The branch consulted internally through Lysaght and BlueScope and it was decided to support the project in full for all necessary COLORBOND® steel materials required, along with all accessory items to support the installation.
